Full disclosure right up front – I work for Wilson Electronics, the cell phone booster manufacturer referenced in this post. So this is the “other” perspective.

Todd - Here’s what I think you will find the most surprising thing I have to say: we actually agree on the major issues, and disagree only on a few minor points.

I absolutely agree with you that improperly installed and poorly engineered cell phone boosters can cause network interference and impede cell service to other callers. That’s why at Wilson we’ve taken 2 steps to eliminate these issues.

(1) Wilson has developed, patented, and built into all its booster models the technology to detect conditions that cause network interference and service problems, and when detected, to automatically shut down the booster to stop interference. You acknowledged this (“some newer units have some smarts . . . maybe that’s why I don’t see more of these”) in your paragraph 4.

(2) Wilson has formally petitioned the FCC to set and enforce higher standards for cell signal boosters, requiring ALL manufacturers to meet these same detection and auto-shutdown standards.

Hopefully this signals to you and other wireless carrier technicians that we share your concerns. We just present a different solution to address the problems.

Like I said at the top, at Wilson Electronics we agree with the carriers on the big stuff. We all have the same goal – better cell phone service and coverage areas. I hope this is the beginning to a dialogue that will help close the gap.

It's pretty amazing what you can do online ..It was not that long ago that you were wondering who just called your when you were not
at home. Now you can only see who's the unknown caller .. and also spy on who's talking to your lover :))

It's crazy ... You can even find the address by a simple phone number.. Wonder what's gonna come next ?
